Twice as strong - the Dual Forum at the FHV

27.02.2024
Dual and part-time degree programmes are an important building block for attracting young talent at an early stage and retaining specialists and managers. The eighth Dual Forum at the FHV focussed on how the dual and part-time degree programmes in the Faculty of Engineering at the FHV are developing and why they offer opportunities for students, companies and the university alike.

At the Dualforum, a platform for part-time and dual study programs in the technical field, numerous Vorarlberg companies met at the FHV to exchange ideas. They have long since recognized the potential of a degree course in combination with work experience phases for sustainable personnel development.

Qualified junior staff

The foundation of the dual and part-time study programs at the FHV is a close partnership with Business and Management. Students benefit from practical training, financial security and excellent career opportunities. "The Dual Forum is an important platform for exchanging ideas with all those involved in a dual study program. After all, we have a common goal: through the practical relevance of the degree program, we train qualified junior staff who can take on responsible positions in the company relatively quickly and in a targeted manner," explains Peter Muckenhuber, former head of the part-time and dual Bachelor's degree programme in Engineering and Management at the FHV.

Expertise and interdisciplinary skills

In order to be successful in a volatile, complex working environment, technical expertise and interdisciplinary cross-sectional skills are required. Partnerships with Business and Management improve the permeability between vocational and higher education. Against this background, the study programs at the FHV are also being continuously developed and offer future-oriented specialization options, as the FHV programme directors pointed out at the Dual Forum.

Long-term and new partnerships

The Dual Forum was attended by long-standing partners as well as companies interested in cooperating for the first time in order to find out more about criteria and prospects; "Company partnerships are structured differently depending on the degree program. In a dual degree program, students have a training contract with the university and a company," explains Franz Geiger, Head of the Electronics and Information Technology Dual bachelor's degree program. "We also advise companies on which cooperation opportunities suit them and we support students in their search for a company for the practical phases," he explains.

Job offers with matching

Bringing together what fits together: A new job offers was also presented, with an interface to the FHV student portal. Companies can post their vacancies online in just a few steps. An automatic matching function suggests suitable vacancies for students and alumni. This service is free of charge for FHV partner companies.
