Laboratory Technician

Where does your fascination for research come from?

Everybody can simply claim stuff - as a researcher, however, that's the opposite of what I want to do, which is proving my hypotheses based on research, measurements, or experiments. Ideally, I publish this in a way that our society knows about and profits from it.

Why do you teach?

As I'm working with robots in my research, I've been teaching in the robotics laboratory since 2016. I adapt my exercises every year, since I myself am constantly learning more, especially when new robots are installed in the laboratory. Since 2019 I am also responsible for the introduction to additive manufacturing for projects. I use 3d-printers regularly in my research to create prototypes and can pass my applied knowledge on to the students.

What is your job like as a laboratory technician?

In short: variety and having fun. I have lots of different tasks, depending on which projects I'm working on. When I'm not at my office (which isn't so unusual), you could find me in the laboratories of the Human-Centred Technologies Research Centre or the Department of Technology. Maybe I'm also away on one of our field studies or am visiting an academic event, where I'm listening, discussing, or presenting results.
