FHV welcomes guest students from 17 countries

02.03.2023
The FHV welcomed 52 guest students from 17 countries on February 1st. Rector Tanja Eiselen greeted the FHV's 2,000th guest student, Irina Santos da Cunha.

International contacts and experience abroad are highly valued at FHV. An international network and the university's involvement in the European University RUN-EU offer students a wide range of opportunities. 52 guest students from 17 different countries have just begun their semester abroad at FHV. Of these, five students have extended their stay beyond the winter semester. Australia, Chile, Germany, Finland, France, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Turkey and the USA are the countries of origin of the young students.

The 2000th guest student of the FHV comes from Portugal, studying Graphic Design at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave in Portugal. Irina Santos da Cunha is 24 years old and in Austria for the first time. "This semester will be a great experience for me, I will get to know a lot of new things and develop personally. I received a very warm welcome. The region is beautiful, I feel good and safe here," says Irina.

Welcome Week

During an introductory week, the guest students get to know the university and their new surroundings. A study and campus introduction, intercultural activities, but also a visit to the market in Dornbirn or an excursion to the Vorarlberg mountains are on the programme. After the introductory week, everyday study life begins for the guest students. Together with FHV students, they attend the courses in the various study programmes and get to know Austrian culture. In return, they bring their cultural background into the daily study routine. The cultural exchange is an enrichment for both sides.

International Office

While the guest students spend their semester abroad at FHV, many Vorarlberg students study abroad for a semester. FHV has a team in the "International Office" to facilitate the uncomplicated organisation of these stays. In the summer semester, 77 students spent a semester abroad.
