- Before-After scenarios of concrete examples to provide clues for effective controlling of innovation projects with BPMN
Processes are at the core of every corporation. Change or innovation within a company requires a change in the operational process world. In order to get a better understanding of the impact of change and to better understand change there is a need for formal tools. These tools include process modelling languages in order to document processes and maturity models for processes in order to evaluate and label them.
The goal of this course is to give studens a process-oriented perspective on companies, to show them why processes are so important for the success of corporations and to familiarize them with the necessary tools for business process management.
Theoretical and methodological know-how (T/M):
- Students discuss a company from a process-oriented perspective and enumerate its business processes. In addition, they name and present the tasks of business process management, list the most important methods of process optimization and explain their procedures.
- Students are able to recognize and understand connections, interactions and interfaces between business processes.
- Students define parameters that are measured, monitored and controlled for a business process.
- Students know the different components of BPMN 2.0 and understand how business processes can be mapped. They know the advantages and disadvantages of abstracting real business processes into a formal system. In addition, the students can evaluate the various modeling methods according to the situation and decide which modeling method is best suited for the respective problem.
- Students are able to abstract the logic of real processes and map it in BPMN 2.0. By simulating the actual and target process models, students can analyze the impact of innovation decisions.
- Through the simulation of innovation processes with process models, the students' understanding of the complexity and effects of changed business processes is strengthened. This should contribute to a more holistic controlling approach, which will be extended by a dedicated process view in addition to the monetary considerations.
In addition, social and communicative competencies (S/K) such as team ability/willingness to cooperate, empathy, critical ability, leadership competence, motivational ability, conflict management, reliability as well as personal competencies (S) such as learning competence and motivation, decision-making ability, willingness to take responsibility, initiative, scientific work, ability to express oneself, appearance are trained.
Integrated course: 1 THW together and 2 THW in two groups.
Lectures and tutorials on case studies. Business process documentation and analysis including development of optimization proposals and their presentation in small groups.
- Written exam with a digital practical part and a theoretical part with pen & paper (80%)
- Participation in group discussions on case-studies and during the assignments on business process modelling (20%)
