This course teaches the basics for writing scientific texts. Supporting tools and techniques are also presented.
- Scientific working techniques
- Characteristics of technical texts
- Writing process and time management
- Formal requirements for manuscript design, quotations, supporting documents and bibliography, etc.
- Literature research techniques
- Digitised literature administration (with Zotero)
- Formal requirements, methods and techniques for creating and conducting a presentation
- Images and mental models; self-image vs. how others percive us, feedback and -forward; techniques vs. communication as attitude; differences of perceiving, describing and evaluating
- Guidance and coaching for creating a presentation: process steps and time management
- Discussion and feedback rounds
This course provides professional and methodological competence (F/M) for the preparation of scientific texts as well as for the use of tools and techniques for the presentation of specialist topics. The students
- know the formal requirements of academic writing and are able to name, explain and apply them
- know working techniques for writing scientific texts and can estimate and structure the workload involved
- recognise characteristic text patterns in the analysis of texts
- are able to describe or summarise facts without value
- know methods to structure technical and environmental-economic contents for a presentation and are able to apply them
- are familiar with the use of professional presentation techniques
- can apply the most important rules for communication & presentation processes
- understand the connection between perceiving, describing and evaluating and recognize that, regarding those aspects, the factors of space and time play a major role
On the other hand, joint discussions in workshops and group work promote social and communicative skills (S/K) and self-competence (S).
