Prerequisites for incoming students: Basic knowledge of Social Work (or related programmes such as Social Pedagogy)
The course focuses on ethical dilemmas that are critically discussed, using human rights and professional ethics as guidelines. Topics such as cultural relativism, racism, and extremism will be explored more deeply. The application of the Theory of Human Needs and the General Normative Theory of Action are practiced with case studies from the professional field of flight & migration. Most of the work will be done in groups, while work processes and discussions will be reflected individually in the reflective journal.
Students gain a deeper understanding of transcultural social work, critically examine their own biases and blind spots. In particular, they learn about the indispensability of the Triple Mandate.
