The generous donation from the estate of Christl and DI Horst Zimmermann also makes it possible to award the prize of the same name, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of Engineering and Technology.
About Erwin Gächter
Erwin Gächter (born 1912 in Koblach) was a typical representative of his generation. After the loss of his father in the First World War, as the eldest son of five children he was unable to pursue higher education for financial reasons. After completing his compulsory education, he worked his way up in the Vorarlberg textile industry from weaver to plant manager and registered six Austrian patents. His dedication, diligence and assertiveness were exemplary.
About Christl and Horst Zimmermann
Christl and Horst Zimmermann came from Transylvania, Romania. After years of political oppression and labor camps, Horst fled to Germany in 1969, where he married Christl after eight years of separation. In 1970, he started working for Liebherr in Ehingen and in 1976 initiated the construction of a plant in Vorarlberg, one of the largest employers in the region. He later became CEO in Nenzing and co-founder of the company ECCON. Christl was involved as chairwoman of "Women's self-help after cancer" and received several awards for her services.
