Green Travel Champion 2024: Frauke Dobers is travelling sustainably across Europe

15.04.2025
Frauke Dobers, RUN-EU Manager at FHV, wins the Green Travel Contest with her 3,333 km eco-journey to Burgos, Spain – proving that sustainable international travel is both possible and rewarding.

From Dornbirn to Burgos – sustainably across Europe!

In 2024, Frauke Dobers, RUN-EU Manager at FHV, took on a unique challenge. For a training programme within the European University alliance RUN-EU, she chose to travel entirely by public and environmentally friendly transport – earning her the Green Travel Award from the International Office.

Her journey covered 3,333.3 km and took her through five countries: Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, France, and Spain. Using 11 trains and 4 buses, she demonstrated that climate-conscious mobility isn’t just an ideal – it’s achievable, affordable, and incredibly enriching.

From scenic rail rides along the French coast with views of flamingos and kitesurfers to productive work hours on high-speed trains – Frauke experienced Europe not only geographically, but also culturally. Her story is a testament to the value of slowing down and engaging more deeply with the journey itself.

Congratulations to Frauke for her inspiring commitment to sustainable mobility – and thank you for leading by example at FHV!
