Learning across borders with RUN-EU

29.11.2022
Bernhard Bitschnau, student in Engineering and Management Bachelor took part in the SAP "Challenging Game Development" in Portugal.

Do you also want to study abroad one day? Get to know the country and its people and at the same time get involved in a topic with other students? Bernhard Bitschnau did just that! He is studying at the FHV (Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences) in the Bachelor's programme in Industrial Engineering and Management: "When I heard about the Short Advanced Programme "Challenging Game Development" from RUN-EU, I didn't have to think long about applying. I have always been interested in the topics of computer games, digital games and the development process," says the FHV student. "I also thought it was great to have the chance to gain experience abroad during my studies and meet students from all over Europe."

From concept to computer game in Portugal

"The SAP started with a week-long online input on game design from pixel art, 2D and 3D design to sound and music design and creating animations, it was all there." In teams, the participants came up with a concept for a game on the topic of "Human Rights", which they created in the following attendance week. "The campus of the university in Barcelos (IPCA) is very modern. On the programme: varied workshops, getting to know IPCA students and the campus, working in teams on the computer games, sightseeing through the old town of Barcelos and dinner together as well as presentations of the simulation games."The SAP with the stay in Portugal was one of the highlights of my studies at the FHV so far. I will always remember the intensive time in Barcelos, which I was able to spend with students and lecturers from all over Europe. I can absolutely recommend taking part and will certainly apply again if the opportunity should arise," Bernhard is convinced.
