"Summa cum laude" für Amir Omeradzic

24.03.2025
We are pleased to announce that Amir Omeradzic, doctoral student of Hans-Georg Beyer and employee at the FZ Business Informatics, has successfully completed his doctorate in computer science at the University of Ulm with the distinction ‘summa cum laude’ (‘with highest praise’).

The title of his dissertation is:

"Convergence Properties of Evolution Strategies on the Multimodal Rastrigin Function."

The thesis, which was written as part of the FWF-funded project ‘Evolutionary Global Optimisation’ at the FHV, deals, among other things, with the question of how it is possible to find the highest peak among an extremely large number of mountain peaks without having a map (the description is to be seen metaphorically in order to give a generally understandable picture). Such questions play a role, for example, in the optimal placement of wind turbine farms, the determination of the folding structures of protein molecules or data-driven portfolio optimisation.

Dear Amir, congratulations!
