#wasmachsch "Rethinking communication"
03.06.2024Student Ambassador Lisa Oberholzer from Hohenems is studying for a bachelor's degree in InterMedia. What she appreciates about her studies is the opportunity to use her creativity in a multimedia environment. The diversity of the programme structure and the practice-oriented training are particularly valuable to her. The close and good cooperation with her fellow students and lecturers creates a personal atmosphere on campus.
Why did you choose the InterMedia bachelor's degree program?
Basically, my interests have always been in a creative, design-related area. For example, drawing, photography, sewing, but also writing. Accordingly, it was clear to me that I wanted to go in a creative direction that had a multimedia focus - InterMedia was perfect for this, allowing me to work in an interdisciplinary way and broaden my creative horizons.
What role do group work and projects play for you?
In the role of Design: inside, collaboration in the group is crucial in order to expand and enrich the narrative - to get out of your own bubble, so to speak. Practicing communication and a good culture of discussion is just as essential and enriching from a personal perspective. In creative projects, you gain insights into your own expertise, identify strengths and weaknesses and refine your creative eye - all in an environment in which mistakes are allowed and experimentation is encouraged and encouraged.
Can you tell us about an exciting project as part of your studies?
One of my favorite projects came about during my participation in the "Digital Media Formats" workshop, where we were allowed to take on the design of the "living room" for the Poolbar Festival. We decided on the projection of objects, which we filmed in analog and then edited so that they looked like 3D models. The realization was done in an experimental way, which was extremely entertaining for the team. Working on site, especially with the festival crew, offered a completely different and enriching experience compared to designing in an everyday environment.
What qualities or skills do you think are important to be successful as a Design:in?
To be successful as a Design:in, various qualities and skills are important. These include creativity, the ability to generate innovative ideas and openness to new approaches and perspectives. Good communication skills are also crucial in order to convey ideas effectively and work successfully in a team. Empathy is important in order to empathize with different target groups and understand their needs. A willingness to be constantly curious and open to inspiration from different sources are also key elements. Last but not least, self-confidence and trust in one's own abilities play an important role in being a successful Design:in - however, this is all a process that comes with experience.
