Fundamentals in computer security

Course content

As part of this course, students have the opportunity to take part in a selected hacker competition such as the Cyber Security Austria Challenge and compete in the group of students with colleagues from their own degree program as well as from degree programs across Austria.

Learning outcomes

The students can carry out attacks on networks, services, and devices and take countermeasures.
The students know procedures and technologies for network security (e.g. VPN, authentication technologies).

The students know procedures and technologies for operating system security (e.g. suid mechanism).
The students can analyze various security protocols (SSL / TLS, IPsec, Kerberos) for attacks.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Participation in the competition and reflection on the results.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the online competition and evaluation of the results based on the tasks solved in the competition.
