Course content
The focus of the course is on corporate sustainability practices including systems for the digitalisation of operational environmental management. In particular:
- Tasks, structuring and components of environmental information systems
- Indicators and scorecard as reference framework and decision support
- Legal reporting requirements, legal compliance and sustainability reporting
- Systematised procedure for the introduction of company environmental information systems
- Digital technologies enabling data exchanges in circular economy approaches
- Case studies: e.g. Stakeholder identification for data collection and management, supply chain data exchange practices, EMAS processes, scorecard for operational resource efficiency.
Learning outcomes
The course provides technical and methodological skills (F/M) for the implementation and operation of environmental information and mangement systems. The students
- know typical tasks and components of operational environmental information systems and can describe them
- are able to define environmental information and management systems
- are familiar with key figures and legal reporting obligations for corporate sustainability and can derive requirements for the implementation of environmental information systems from these
- know systematic methods of designing environmental information systems, methods of project management and are able to apply them to case studies
- understand the relevance of environmental information systems in the context of a digital circular economy
- know case studies on the use of environmental information systems

- Work on exercises and case studies (40 %)
- Written examination (60 %)
For a positive overall grade, a minimum of 50% of the points must be achieved in each part of the examination
