What are you currently working on in your research?

Since completing my PhD in 2022, I have been working on the modeling of thermal systems using data from industrial partners. I am particularly interested in how domain knowledge and data-based algorithms can be combined to monitor and optimize thermal systems in terms of the underlying processes. However, I still spend part of my research work in the laboratory, where I conduct experiments on energy storage methods.

Why do you teach alongside your research activities?

Because I enjoy explaining complex issues in different ways. I learn a lot for myself and am sometimes confronted with questions that I would never have asked myself. This also equips me with the necessary fundamental knowledge. The subjects I teach - from thermodynamics to data science - have many points of contact with my research. It's a win-win situation for me.

What drives you in your research?

In my view, research work is also characterized by a lot of failure. It's quite normal to be on the wrong track, especially at the beginning. I therefore also measure my success as a researcher by my own development, i.e. by how much I learn myself when working on a problem, even if sometimes the result is unexpected. The challenge in research is that the goal is often not visible or clearly defined. But that's also what makes it exciting for me.
