What is the essence of your job as a university lecturer and what fascinates you about it?
My work focuses on the question of how people in organisations develop a shared understanding of reality and make decisions based on this. I am particularly fascinated by analysing current issues with students and developing theoretically sound, practical solutions.

Which trends in your field do you find particularly interesting and in which subject areas are you particularly involved?
In the digital transformation of the economy and society, the representation of (problematic) sections of reality plays a decisive role. Social systems theory makes valuable contributions to this, particularly with the figure of the ‘second-order observer’ and their construction of reality. I use such approaches in seminars, consultations, lectures and my science blog to rethink the topics of ‘organisational design’ and ‘decision-making’.

What would you like to give your students and what should they bring with them?
I would like to inspire students to increase their self-reflection. The ability to communicate and make decisions well is based on observing one's own thought processes across disciplinary boundaries. Students should bring with them a curiosity for open-ended processes and the courage to deal with uncertain or unclear data and information. Decision-making should be experienced and understood as a joint negotiation and not solely as an analytical-mathematical process.
